
The ASP 2025 pre-conference workshop, hosted by the ASP Primate Care Committee, is on the topic of primate welfare assessment. The workshop will be held on September 16th 2025 from 1-5pm and on September 17th from 8am-12pm at the conference venue, the Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel.
This workshop comprises two half-day sessions of instruction and discussion concerning primate behavior and welfare assessment in captive settings. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will have an understanding of the concepts and application of proactive and responsive welfare monitoring and assessment, behavioral welfare indicators, assessment techniques, physiological measures of welfare, and an arrange of science-based welfare assessment tools. This workshop is designed for caregivers, keepers, behavior management personnel, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, curators, supervisors, institutional animal care and use committee members, and research personnel.
The instructors for the workshop include Dr. Kate Baker (Tulane NPRC), Dr. Andrew Halloran (Elgin Center), Dr. Sarah Neal (Michale E. Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research), Dr. Ori Pomerantz (California NPRC), Yianni Livanos (University of Chicago), Grace Nelson (University of Chicago), and Jaine Perlman (Emory NPRC).
